When summer heats up, the White Mountains' many streams, rivers, lakes and ponds are the place to be. It's a wonderful opportunity to cool off while taking in the great White Mountains scenery.

Here are just a few of the many places to swim around the region:


Kancamagus Highway
• Lower Falls, near the eastern end of the highway
• Frog Rock, 1/2 mile west of the Loon Mountain billboard, also on the east end



Route 302
• Lower Falls on the Ammonoosuc River: half a mile west of Cherry Mountain Road, park in the big lot and walk 500 feet to falls
• Sawyer Rock, two miles west of Bartlett Village



In the Lincoln Area
• Bastin's Pool on Route 175, Thornton Gore Road
• Russell Pond (in the National Forest) in Woodstock
• Echo Lake State Beach in Franconia Notch State Park.



North of the Notches
• Moore Dam Lake, Littleton
• Forest Lake State Beach off Route 116.



In the North Conway Area
• First Bridge on River Road in North Conway
• Diana's Baths on West Side Road in North Conway
• Jackson Falls in Jackson
• Echo Lake State Park in North Conway



Southern White Mountains
• White Lake State Park, Tamworth
• Wentworth State Beach, Wolfeboro
• Chocorua Lake Public Beach, Chocorua



Route 2 and Points North
• The Peabody River (also in the National Forest) off Routes 2 and 16 in Gorham
• Wood's Brook in Gorham
